Alfredo A. Matos: General surgeon in Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Therapy. Responsible for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of the Social Security Metropolitan Hospital Complex of Panama Republic. Professor of Clinical Nutrition, General Surgery and Therapy at Medicine College of Panama University. He is president of the Asociación Panameña de Nutrición Clínica y Metabolismo and vice president of FELANPE (North Area - Mexico, Central America and Caribe).

Alessandro Laviano: is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Sapienza University, Rome, Italy. He is also Visiting Research Professor, Department of Surgery, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, USA. Dr. Laviano works at the Clinical Nutrition Unit, Azienda Policlinico Umberto I (University Hospital), Rome, Italy. He is currently European Co-Editor of the international peer-reviewed journal Nutrition. He is an expert for the European Commission in the field of nutrition and metabolism for the evaluation of projects submitted under the Framework Programmers 4 through 7. His Major interests are regulation of food intake under physiological and pathological conditions, disease-associated anorexia and cachexia, hyperphagia and obesity. Dr Laviano is also a member of editorial board of Nutrition, Current Nutrition and Food Science, Bio Psycho Social Medicine, and The Open Nutrition Journal.

Bharat B. Aggarwal: He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, USA and did a postdoctoral fellowship in endocrinology at the University of California Medical Center, USA. He then worked in a biotechnology company (Genentech, Inc.) for almost 10 years. Dr. Aggarwal accepted the position of Professor and Chief of the Cytokine Research Section at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he currently holds the Ransom Horne, Jr., Endowed Professorship in Cancer Research. Dr. Aggarwal has published more than 450 original articles in peer-reviewed journals. Further, he has edited 12 books and been granted 35 patents. He also co-founded the International Society of Translational Cancer Research and organized conferences in India for that society. He has been invited to speak in more than 30 different countries and has delivered more than 300 lectures. Since 2001, Dr. Aggarwal has been listed as one of the ‘‘World’s Most Highly Cited Scientists” by the Information Sciences Institute (ISI). The primary focus of Dr. Aggarwal’s current research is the role of inflammatory pathways in tumorigenesis and other diseases and their modulation by natural products. He has a special passion for anti-inflammatory phytochemicals from spices and traditional medicine. Dr. Aggarwal is a co-founder of Curry Pharmaceuticals and Charak International, both companies based on Natural Products.

Ewald Schlotzer: is currently Global Scientific Director – Parenteral Nutrition Kabi Innovation Centre, for Fresenius Kabi Deutschland, Germany. He is certified in Nutrition Science, University of Gießen, Germany, He was scientific collaborator at the Institute of Nutrition, University of Gießen, Germany. Dr. Schlotzer has publicated several original papers, abstracts, articles, 2 books and 1 book chapter, mainly in the field of parenteral lipid emulsions, essential fatty acids, glutamine, and vitamin E. He participated of more than 50 lectures on national and international conferences, satellite symposia and workshops. He is member of the German Society of Nutritional Medicine (DGEM), the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN) and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.).

Fernando A. Carrasco: Physician Specialist in Clinical Nutrition and acquired his master degree in Nutrition at the University of Chile. Professor of Clinical Nutrition at Medicine College and Clinical Hospital, director of Center of Attention of Metabolic Diseases, University of Chile. Nutrologist at the Center of Obesity Surgery, Carabineros Hospital, Chile and Center of Nutrition and Bariatric Surgery, Clinic Las Condes, Santiago. Former president of Asociación Chilena de Nutrición Clínica, Obesidad y Metabolismo, member of the Communication Committee - FELANPE and member of Executive Committee of the Chilean group at the "International Atherosclerosis Society".

Gary P. Zaloga, MD, FACN, FCCM: Dr. Zaloga is currently global medical director of Intravenous Therapy, Nutrition for Baxter Healthcare, Deerfield, IL. Dr. Zaloga is certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Zaloga has held previous positions as Professor of Medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN (2001-2006), Medical Director and CEO of the Methodist Research Institute, Clarian Health Partners, Indianapolis, IN (2001-2006), Director of Research, Intensimed, Bethesda, MD (2000-2001), Director of Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC (1998-2000), and Professor of Anesthesiology and Medicine, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC (1987-1998). Dr. Zaloga lectures and presents research data at numerous local, regional, national, and international meetings. His research interests center around bioactive properties of dietary compounds. He is particularly interested in molecular nutrition oriented at studying the actions of dietary compounds at the molecular, cellular, intact organ, and in-vivo levels and the use of dietary compounds in the treatment of disease states. These interests include the use of dietary substances for the modulation and treatment of cardiovascular disease, shock states, inflammatory disorders, cancer, and cachexia. Dr. Zaloga has presented over 400 invited lectures throughout the world, published 16 monographs/books, published 67 book chapters, and published over 200 manuscripts in peer reviewed medical journals. Dr. Zaloga is a world recognized expert in endocrine/metabolic and nutritional concerns of critically ill patients.

Gordon L. Jensen, M.D., Ph.D: Dr. Gordon Jensen was appointed Professor and Head of Nutritional Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University in 2007. He also serves as Professor of Medicine at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and is a specialist in nutrition with Centre Medical and Surgical Associates at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and his Ph.D. in nutritional biochemistry from Cornell University. A widely recognized nutrition researcher and educator, he has made numerous presentations at national and international meetings. Dr. Jensen is a past president of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. He is currently a member of the Food and Nutrition Board. He also has served on several editorial boards for leading nutrition journals and as ad hoc reviewer for many other journals. He has authored more than 100 journal articles, reviews, and book chapters. Dr. Jensen's research interests have focused largely on geriatric nutrition concerns.

Gustavo Kliger: Physician Specialist in Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Care Therapy. President of Asociación Argentina de Nutrición Enteral y Parenteral. He is Professor of Intensive Care Therapy and Nutrition at Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina, in Buenos Aires. Physician responsible for Nutritional Support in Sanatorio de la Trinidad Palermo and Sanatorio de los Arcos, Argentina.

Henry J. Thompson, Ph.D.: is professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences and director of the Cancer Prevention Laboratory at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He was the head of the Center for Nutrition in the Prevention of Disease at AMC Cancer Research Center. Before joining AMC, Thompson was on the faculty of the University of New Hampshire where he was professor of Animal and Nutritional Sciences and director of the Human Nutrition Center. He served as a senior research nutritionist at IIT Research Institute in Chicago. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society for Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Thompson has published more than 140 journal articles and book chapters. He is on the editorial board of Nutrition and Cancer, An International Journal and serves as a reviewer for several journals. His current research deals with investigations of the health benefits of staple and specialty food crops and his laboratory also is investigating the mechanisms underlying the cancer inhibitory activity of energy restriction and exercise.

John A. Milner, Ph.D.: is chief of the Nutritional Science Research Group, Division of Cancer Prevention, National Cancer Institute. He earned a Ph.D. from Cornell University in nutrition. He spent almost 25 years in academia at the University of Illinois and Penn State University prior to his current position. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Nutrition, American Association of Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society's Food and Chemistry Division and the Institute of Food Technology. He is a fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Sigma Xi and an Honorary Member of the American Dietetic Association. Dr. Milner has published more than 350 abstracts, book chapters, and journal articles. In his current position he promotes research that deals with the physiological importance of dietary bioactive compounds as modifiers of cancer risk and tumor behavior.

Josep M. Argiles: He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and received his doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona. He then became Lecturer in Biochemistry and carried out postdoctoral work on acetone metabolism in mammals. Dr. Argiles has authored and co-authored over 300 publications, including several books, many related to the field of cancer research and he reviews scientific articles for many scientific journals. He has made many contributions to popular science, publishing dozens of articles as well as two books. Dr. Argiles is an active advisor of several research organizations and of many pharmaceutical companies in the field of Medical Nutrition, participating in several clinical trials involving anti-cachectic molecules. His main contribution to the field of cancer research concern the mechanisms associated with cancer cachexia. He was the first scientist to describe the mechanism responsible for the increased protein breakdown in skeletal muscle of cancer patients which seems to be responsible for muscle wasting.

Luis Nin: Graduated and specialized in intensive care in Montevideo, Uruguai. Currently dr Nin is na specialist in Clinical Nutrition and Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition. Former president of Nutrition Uruguaian Society (1983-1985). Presidente of International Confederation.

Luiza Kent-Smith: PhD in Nutrition Saskatchewan University, Professional Leader Nutrition and Dietetics, Saskatoon Health Region, Saskatoon, Canada, Past President of the Portuguese Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (APNEP) and former member of the ESPEN Education and Clinical Practice Committee. Specialist in Nutrition for cancer patients and Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Therapy.

Maria Paula Castro Ferreira Alves: Dietian, bachelor of Nutrition Sciences from College of Nutrition and Food Sciences of Porto University, Portugal. Post-graduated in Oncology from Institute Abel Salazar of Biomedical Science, Porto, Portugal. She is director of Nutrition and Food Service of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto Francisco Gentil E.P.E, Portugal. She teaches at the Institute Jean Piaget – Health.

Nadia Rodych: Is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada. She began working on the Royal University Hospital Nutrition Support team in 1999, with Dr Jaime Pinilla. She is currently the lead dietitian for the Nutrition Support Service. Nadia has been certified as a nutrition support dietitian since 2005 through the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification. In addition to providing direct patient care, she also mentors General Surgery Residents and Dietetic Interns in the practice of nutrition support. Nadia has been involved in research initiatives with various departments including Critical Care, Surgery and Food and Nutrition. She reviewed scientific research for the initial development of the ‘Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for Nutrition Support in Mechanically Ventilated Critically Ill Adult Patients’. Nadia is a nutrition support resource and educator for dietitians and allied health care professionals in the province of Saskatchewan.

Paula Ravasco: Graduated and Bachelor in Nutrition at Medicine College - University of Lisboa under the theme: "Cancer: Metabolic Dysfunction, Nutrition and Quality of Life". She is studying Medicine and she keeps intense investigation activity in Nutrition with special focus in Oncology. Paula Ravasco is assistant Professor in Nutrition Course at Medicine College at Lisboa University and she is member of many European Clinical Nutrition Organizations. She has more than 40 indexed published papers in national and international magazines and she is reviser of many international journals of more than 15 renowned magazines (Journal of Clinical Oncology, The European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, The Lancet Oncology, Journal of Supportive Oncology, Cancer, Clinical Nutrition).

Rafael Figueredo Grijalba: Graduated and specialized in Nutrition in Assuncion, Paraguai. Currently dr Rafael is chief of department of Nutrition at Paraguayan University -Hospital de Clínicas, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, Universidad Nacional de Asunción - Paraguay; and Assistent Professor at the Medical College- Facultad de Ciencias Médicas. Universidad Nacional de Asunción - Paraguay. He is former President of paraguayan society of Nutrition and current President of FELAMPE - Federación Latinoamericana de Terapia Nutricional, Nutrición Clínica y Metabolismo - FELANPE.

Remy Meier: Graduated and specialized in gastroenterology in Swisserland. Associated Professorand chief of Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit at University Hospital of Kantonsspital Liestal, Switzerland. He is Professor of Medicine College of Basilea and Human Nuytrition Institute. Author.

Ritva R. Butrum, Ph.D. Dr. Butrum is an internationally recognized authority in the field of diet, nutrition and cancer prevention. After holding the position of Vice President for Research at the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) in Washington, DC, she currently serves as a Senior Science Advisor at the same organization. In 1983 Dr. Butrum initiated the Diet and Cancer Branch (DCB) within the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). As DCB Branch Chief, her key responsibility was the largest nutrition program at the NCI, which encompassed clinical intervention trials in diet, nutrition and cancer prevention. She also oversaw the planning and development of agendas for many workshops and scientific conferences related to diet, nutrition and cancer prevention. At these meetings, which were attended by international experts Dr. Butrum served as NCI representative and spokesperson, presenting the Institute's views. Under the leadership of Dr. Butrum, the DCB developed the NIH Nutrition Objectives for the Year 2000 Goals for the Nation, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act. These activities provided her with the unique opportunity to coordinate nutritional guidelines across various government agencies and interest groups. Dr. Butrum was instrumental in enlarging and supporting the Clinical Nutrition Research Units program at the NCI. She collaborated with the Food and Drug Administration, the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, and the agriculture ministries of many countries, in efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of food composition data. She was a representative for the Union of Nutritional Sciences to CODATA for eight years. Dr. Butrum received her Ph.D. in food science from the University of Maryland at College Park, M.S. degree in nutrition biochemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles (Fulbright Fellowship), and her B.S. degree in foods and nutrition from the University of Helsinki, Finland. She has published extensively in the scientific literature.

Shalom Kalnicki, M.D., F.A.C.R.O. Professor and President of Oncology and Radiotherapy Department of Albert Einstein Medicine College Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, EUA.

Steven B. Heymsfield, M.D . PhD. is Global Director of Scientific Affairs for the obesity franchise at Merck & Co. In this capacity he oversees scientific aspects of the Company's obesity drug development program. Dr. Heymsfield received a degree in medicine from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and he completed his internship and residency at Emory University, continuing on to become a Fellow in Medicine prior to his Columbia University appointments in 1986. Dr. Heymsfield has published more than 400 peer-reviewed papers covering topics such as obesity, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, malnutrition, pregnancy, body composition, and caloric expenditure. His contributions to the study of human nutrition led to the TOPS Award from NAASO, the Rhoads Award of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the Forbes Memorial Award Lecture, International Society of Body Composition Research. He was honored for his role in the FDA ban on ephedra, receiving the 2004 NYC Mayor's Award for Science and Technology. In addition to his strong interest in biological method development, Dr. Heymsfield maintains an active clinical obesity research program, extending his earlier research at Columbia. Dr. Heymsfield is past President of the American Society of Clinical Nutrition and of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

Steven K. Clinton, MD, PhD. is currently Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at The Ohio State University. He is Director of the Prostate and Genitourinary Oncology Program at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Under his leadership, the program is a national leader in accrual to clinical trials. Dr. Clinton also serves as the Program Leader for Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. The focus of this program is to understand the fundamental mechanisms underlying the development of cancer and defining prevention strategies. A major strength of the program is the “crops to the clinic” research agenda that integrates the efforts of scientists in agriculture, food science, and nutrition with clinical investigators to conduct novel human clinical trials at The James. Dr. Clinton provides service to many national organizations including the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Nutrition, the American Society for Clinical Oncology and the American Institute for Cancer Research. He is currently serving the National Academy of Sciences and Institute of Medicine as a member of the Dietary Reference Intake Committee for Vitamin D and Calcium. His research team primarily focuses upon prostate and bladder cancers and their efforts include metabolic epidemiology, clinical intervention trials, as well as basic laboratory studies of cellular and molecular biology resulting in over 130 scientific publications, reviews, and book chapters.

William Manzanares Castro: Graduated and specialized in intensive care at Montevideo, Uruguay. Currently dr Mazanares is assistent profesor in clinical investigation and Colaborator at the Intensive Medicine Department at the medical college -Facultad de Medicina de Montevideo - Uruguay. HE is Director of research lines linked to Clinical Nutrition and intensive care (Selenium and inflamatory response, Probiótics and simbiotics). Author of many chapters in national and international books and also, publications in national and international papers.
